What: A recession may be underway. Many small businesses are being affected by the coronavirus pandemic because they still have to pay their suppliers, employees, and rent. Big businesses such as airlines are seeking up to fifty billion dollars in aid from the government which is a dramatic change from what had been record airline profits. Tourisms, hotels, and cruise lines businesses are collapsing. The federal reserve has slashed benchmark short term interest rates to near zero. They also pledged to help the banking system by buying 700 billion dollars in securities.
