Elizabeth Grant, better known as Lana del Rey, was born in Manhattan, New York City, New York. She started singing in her local church for fun and became a cantor. Around the age of 14, she became heavily reliant on alcohol to cope with her emotional issues, which later got her sent to Kent boarding school in Connecticut at the bright age of 15 where she was treated for her alcoholism. After boarding school, she moved to the Bronx to study at Fordham University. During this time, she started making music under the name Lizzy Grant, where she was remotely under the radar. Her music ended up getting big on spaces like myspace and she later changed her name to Lana del Rey, leaving her Lizzie Grant era behind as long as who she was at that time. I love Lana del Rey because her music is so real and relatable as well as raw in emotion and I love that for her. She's a representation of what the mind of your average teenage girl looks like and she continues to make music that is both relatable and amazing.
I think I remember hearing one Lana Del Ray song in my lifetime, which is kinda sad, but it was very relatable. I always thought it was her real name, but her actual name is very pretty.
