Many Americans wanted to beat the British at war and see it as another fight for independence. After the war, the United States united to resolve disagreements they had on tariffs. The United States also signed the Louisiana Purchase and doubled the size of their country. They decided to explore the frontier and further strengthen the United States. According to the “Star Spangled Banner” by Francis Scott Key it states, “And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,”. In context, this occurred because Francis Scott Key witnessed the Battle of Fort McHenry and saw soldiers fighting valiantly for their country. Most Americans saw the War of 1812 as another fight for independence from Britain. This proves that the US’ nationalism increased immensely during the War of 1812 because it shows that the US is fighting hard for their country. 

Early America was a time of nationalism because the US fought hard to protect their country and are trying to secure their independence. Although Federalism was discouraged, it was because they lacked nationalism and US citizens believed nationalism was needed. This is important to know because the US is strong in nationalism and fights hard for their country. This has relevance because without the War of 1812 the US would have fallen and wouldn't be one of the strongest and most respected powers in the world.
