A few weekends ago, I went with my family to the Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure. We had a fun time as we got to meet some villains, saw the parade, and we even came back with 13 pounds of candy and a crazy story to tell. It was very scary, but it made that experience VERY memorable and one we aren't forgetting any time soon. Let me weave you a tale.
It was 2 pm on September 17th. My family got in the special ticket line and we saw so many costumes that we liked. From Roger Rabbit and Jessica Rabbit to a toddler dressed up as Wednesday from the Netflix show, there were so many cool and creative ideas. As we were looking, my tia's phone started to ring. She got a call from my cousin. It was normal for these calls, so she picked up. We noticed that very quickly, she started getting more and more worried as it went on. Once the call ended, she started to cry. She told us that my cousin was crying and he said through tears that his mom was ran over and died, she was the first person he called because "...I know how much you loved her." We just stood in silence. She was my ex-tia, and we all loved her. She was so kind to everyone and to have her go so soon was heart-breaking. As my tia stepped out, I started crying. I held back tears as we got to the turnstile and entered the park. We went to Mortimer's Market to get a sipper, a Coke Zero, a Monster Energy, and some bread. As we got in line, my tia got a call from my tio, his dad. My tia stepped out of line and near the lockers. I went with her as I wasn't in line and wanted to be there for her. I was put on the call too and that's when we got news. I ran to my parents in line and told them, "My ex-tia is alive! It was his dog!" They stared at me for a bit, but after my tia told them what happened, they started laughing. What had happened was because the tears made his voice sound different, my tia thought he said "Mama's dead" instead of "Molly's dead", Molly being the name of his dog. My parents were laughing as my mom rejoiced. She hates dogs because of the horror movie "Dogs" that she saw when she was 2. As we finished paying, my dad joked that this was the hardest we ever celebrated a dog's death. We poured one out to Molly and went on with our day.
Even though we celebrated, I still feel bad for my cousin. Molly was the last of his puppies, and losing her was basically the end of the world. I remember running around the house with her and playing with her favorite toy. We went over to Plaza de la Familia and put her name on a remembrance note on the memory wall, but then moved it to the bowl where a Dante statue was. It was for pets, so it was perfect. I pray that she is doing well in heaven and that she is with family. After all, all dogs go to heaven. Rest in Peace, Molly, and enjoy life up there. We'll be there soon girl.
Writer's Note: This is one of the hardest things I've had to do as this was a loss to our familia. My cousin's dogs were what brought him joy and losing Molly, the last of his dogs, was like being stabbed in the gut with a knife and having it twisted. If you read this, please spend all the time that you can with your pets. You'll never know when they will move on. Life's too short.
