Promoting Women’s Basketball According to a New York Times article out of the 343 women’s teams in Division I, 205 averaged less than 1,000 people and 90 averaged less than 500 (Jere Longman). Duke ranked 15th in women’s basketball attendance last season behind less successful programs like Louisville and Iowa State. Tennessee is the highest ranked in women’s college basketball attendance with 14,414 people to come. High schools and colleges need to do more to generate support for women’s basketball through creative, community oriented promotions that focus on target audiences. There are five specific traits to be a good leader but the main one is character. Character is what defines you as a person. In order for you to be a leader you have to have integrity which comes along with character. “Personally commit yourself to developing more consistency. If you want your teammates to work harder, make sure you are consistently working to the best of your ability. If you want your team to focus, first improve your own focus.”- (Stack) One of the main problem’s women’s basketball faces is popularity. Basketball isn’t a sport that people see women playing. As of today women’s basketball popularity has grown but they still face is financial challenges. Bigger crowds would come if the women didn’t have as many losses and it would help the financial state that women would be in. “Bigger crowds at women’s basketball games lead to larger audiences for the championship games, which create a better experience for players.”
