This side story will probably be the first of many and it goes with My Music Journey Pt. 1 and 2, breaking my promise that I would restrict myself on sequels, but do short stories count? Anyways, this one's going to be following more of Part 2 and is kind of the epilogue to it. If you need to read it again, go ahead. I'll wait.
If you asked me a month ago who my favorite band is, I would've said Blink-182. Today, I put them in joint first with another band that's a little more close to home. The band in joint first with Poway's Blink is Agoura Hills' Linkin Park. Something about how they accurately capture the pain and chaos of life while speaking to the ones in a bad place captivated me. Even though the lead singer isn't roaming this earth, his pain and voice live on in their songs. Seeing to which I said Blink and Linkin Park were my joint first, there has to be a second right? My second would probably be Berkeley's Green Day. I remember recently hearing Dilemma from their new album "Saviors" and felt it sounded right at home with classics like American Idiot, Holiday, and more. This isn't what the title's about, but I just noticed that these bands were all from California and the 3 cities most visited in the state (Berkeley-near San Fransisco, Agoura Hills-near Los Angeles, Poway-near San Diego).
Now before I hear "Isn't that emo music?" or something of the sort, let me ask you this. Have you ever heard a song from the 3 bands mentioned in your life? Moreover, did you ever listen to the lyrics of said songs and thought about the message? I bet that you've heard at least one song on the radio, but turned it off or switched stations because it wasn't your thing. I grew up with a mom who loves metal music and a dad who listened to what I am right now when he was my age. I grew up hearing these bands and jammed out to them long before I knew how to multiply 2 x 2. What I should've realized was that the music I grew up with is the music that grown up me lives by. Because I listened to all these bands, paid close attention to the lyrics, and enjoyed the music at a young age, I carried that enjoyment all the way to where I'm at now.
Does that mean I no longer enjoy Cody and Ben? Are you crazy?! They are my comfort music! They calm me down, they don't stir my aggressiveness, and they're like the other side of me. I listen to them devotedly and can't wait for their concert in May. I'll be playing their music more in preparation for said concert, but those 3 bands aren't going away anytime soon.
