My favorite book is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. I first remember reading this book in middle school. The story is about a Native American boy who lives on a Native American reservation. He then attends a high school outside the reservation. The book talks about themes of identity, race, poverty, and aspirations. I found it very interesting to know that some school districts have banned the book due to its vulgar language and sensitive topics. Having the opportunity to read the book gave me insight into a career I would soon like to pursue as I go into college.
