Over millions of years, gravity pulls the material together until it's so dense and hot that nuclear fusion starts. That's when a star begins to shine! Our sun is a star, too, and it's the reason we have life here on Earth. But stars come in all sizes and colors, from red dwarfs to massive blue giants. And when they die, they can go out with a bang in a supernova, or collapse into a black hole.
