Many people say I have a photographic memory, I retain information quickly, or my brain is so empty I have room to remember all the small things (the song and the tiny details). I'm not too fond of that being told to my face, but if I know you as a nice person and you GENUINELY MEAN IT, then compliment accepted. Not many people belong in this category, so keep your expectations low. The only time I knew I had a photographic memory was when I remembered the name of an opossum plush my religion teacher owns. The plush in question is Eric the Opossum and his name was brought up in a test question that goes kinda like this: "All teachers at________ are staff members. Eric the Opossum is not a teacher. Therefore, Eric is not a staff member at ________. What is this argument an example of?" The answer is Modus Tollens for those who don't know (if X is true then Y is true. Y is NOT true. Therefore, X is not true.) I knew this throughout my school year, and whenever someone mentioned the opossum, I always said "You mean Eric?" and would get the "THAT'S ITS NAME?!" or "IT HAS A NAME?!" response. This memory isn't constant but is always either a) an important moment I know and keep close or b) triggered by something that makes me think of a/the memory in that moment. I've seen studies saying this kind of memory is more common in children and rarely in adults, so take that as you will. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll recite the lines from Photograph that inspired me to write this tiny story. (Brownie points for whoever gets it, although you all deserve it :)
"If I wished myself a superpower
I would make this moment last for hours
If I had my will, time would just stand still
Wait for me until I find some magic film
To take a photograph and live inside"
