Lady Gaga's meat dress was designed by Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti. The dress was made from raw beef and was worn by Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The intention behind the dress was to make a statement about the need for attention to be paid to the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and the U.S. military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. After the event, the dress was preserved by being treated with chemicals and was eventually turned into jerky. The dress did indeed have a strong smell, which Lady Gaga later described as "a little bit like bologna." Beginning in 2019, the dress is being displayed in Las Vegas at the Haus of Gaga museum inside the Park MGM casino.
