Spring Break

My spring break was one of those ones where you didn't want it to end. I went to Little Tokyo, 2 hockey games, did rock climbing, learned 3 new songs on my keyboard, drew 2 pictures, and more, but that's just a summary. Here's the full story:

I guess it's right to start with Wednesday as technically when 1:08 hit, we were on holiday. I went to a field trip that day to MOCA in Downtown. The art piece they had were very different from what you think when the word "art" in the sense it isn't painting and statues, but rather everyday things in film and other visual art. There was one art piece that caught my eye, and that was this tree bark looking thing with thorns on it and around it. It was hung up on the wall and my group had their own ideas that our guide tried to interpret. We kind of thought the tree bark was like the bounding of the books in the Hocus Pocus and Evil Dead franchises. The bark had graffiti on it, but I had no luck in making out what it was. There was some other art we looked at, but that was the most notable. After the museum, we went across the street to the Little Tokyo plaza for food. We decided to have a picnic near the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. My group, which was some of the active members of our school's art club Comet Creatives, went hog wild inside the market. I found these candy kits my tio would always bring home when he went to Japan as a marine, so naturally I bought it. One of my friends Alanny also got one, but since she only had $20 (and the stuff she had was close to hitting that) I bought the kit for her. After our group finished, we went to the plaza outside the center for lunch. We enjoyed the food greatly as we talked about the news of Saw XI. We talked about our favorite movie and trap. Mine was Saw X and my favorite trap has to be the Horsepower trap from Saw 3D. That wasn't a good movie, but the traps were amazing. Having to reach for a red lever outside the car windshield to save your friends in 30 seconds while being superglued to the driver's seat feels like a living hell, and I must commend Chester Bennington (who played Evan, the guy in the situation with his girlfriend and buddies. R.I.P you legend) for the phenomenal acting. Keep Chaz in the back of your head right now, he'll be back. Some of the girls didn't know this trap, so I showed them the clip I found on YouTube. They were very surprised at the clip and that made me really happy! After we picked up and packed up, our group leader Ms. Gonzalez said we could go to a bookstore near here and also get some ice cream on the way back. The bookstore we went to was quite a walk, but it was at the Weller Court Shopping Center. The store was called Kinokuniya Los Angeles. It was very packed, but my group loved it. As we walked around, we were seeing things we liked and we sometimes caved into getting it. We went into the art section to the left of the registers and I noticed a lone book on a book cart. I pointed it out to the girls around me (Michelle, Alanny, and Gali) and we came to the same conclusion: we need to get this for the freshman and senior religion teacher. The book was called "No Thoughts, Just Possums" and after one look inside, we decided to put our money together to buy it. Ms. Gonzalez had a membership to the place, so we were able to get a discount. After paying, we walked out. Remember earlier I said to keep Chaz in the back of your head? Well, when we walked out, the song over the speaker was a cover of In The End by Linkin Park. I froze when I recognized it and started singing along. I believe that was a sign from Chaz, but it was more likely a coincidence. We waited for everyone else and went to get some matcha ice cream and sugared fruit. By then, everyone was let out of school, which meant we were officially on "Holiday"! My friend Anahi was talking to me and Alanny about how she loved the store and wanted to go back. We went back to the plaza and some of us wanted the corn dogs in the middle of the plaza while the ones who bought the possum book wanted ice cream across the way. Michelle took us there and we absolutely loved it. When me and Alanny ordered together, I payed for both. We regrouped and found them waiting at the cube outside the museum. We took a picture and got on the bus. I signed the book for everyone and we hatched a plan. It went like this:

- If he's there, then we give him the book as a group (the ones who bought it).

- If he's not there, then we place it under Eric (the plush opossum) and wait until break ends.

Our plan ended up being the latter, but I was told yesterday by him that he saw it when he came for the Holy Saturday service here. His favorite page said "Every day we stray away from God." That was quite rewarding and the 4 of us joked we would be students of the year just for that.

My actual break wasn't as thrilling. I stayed home mostly doing homework, but going to 2 hockey games (WHERE WE LOST) was quite fun. I got a jersey with customization for about $485. It said my last name on the back and the number I chose was a 13. To give you a hint of what my jersey logo was (and the team might as well), I asked for a 13 and I got a 13, but wouldn't it be funny if I "asked for a 13, but they drew a 31". I also learned 3 new songs on my keyboard. Those songs were:

- Wake Me Up When September Ends

- Why Don't You Get A Job?

- Leave Out All The Rest

I also drew my Animal Crossing character in a few outfits and had some fun with it. The last day of break was rock climbing with my school's Onward Scholars. It was not far from the San Antonio Winery, and I had a lot of fun. We even saw the eclipse thanks to an employee who works at the Griffin Observatory. She had 2 glasses for us to use and share. We were able to see it and take some good pictures. Speaking of pictures, the Thursday and Friday after the field trip, I went to the Holy Thursday and Good Friday services at the parish across the street from school. I was told that if I went, took pictures, and uploaded them to a dropbox in Google Classroom, I'd get extra credit for Religion. I was going to go to the Holy Saturday service, but the rain and my mom prevented me from going. I instead watched 2 movies with my family. Nothing says holy like watching a movie about a child murderer and another poking fun at horror movies. Overall, I had a pretty nice break!
