13-year-old Kai Xue was cured thanks to doctors in Britain. Xue had WILD syndrome (impairs cells, causes lymphedema and warts, and leads to infections) and severe chylous ascites (caused 28L of lymphatic fluid to be collected in her abdomen). After a decade of looking for doctors to locate the cause and stop it in both the UK and China, Xue and her mother Ning Chen went to get a diagnosis by Dr. Mona Mossad, "a national expert in lymphatic intervention." Working with a team, the excess fluids in Xue's system were removed and they fixed a leak in her liver. After a 5 week recovery, she was able to return home. Kai is the first kid to go through this treatment, and this could mean treatment can become available for more people around the world.
