The Gondola Project, or the LA ARTS(Aerial Rapid Transport) project, was first proposed in 2018 by Frank McCourt, the previous owner of Dodger stadium and the current owner of the Dodger parking lot. The basic idea of the Gondola project is to have three aerial trams, or gondolas, transport a group of people through a ropeway technique through Dodger Stadium, Elysian Park, and Chinatown. To get the gondola project approved, they must go through the EIR review process, which takes years to finish. The reason why this process takes so long is because they spend the first couple years considering alternatives that could be a better option, or they spend time researching the land they plan to use and present the findings, as well as draft environmental document reviews and hold public hearings to get their support.. The person in charge of building the Gondola is David Grannis, the chief architect who works in METRO. The project has the support of many of the key players involved, such as the Board of Directors for METRO who voted 11-0 in favor of the project, but there are many others in the city who want to “Stop the Gondola” (the name of the group spearheading the movement against it).
